Water and Wastewater
From CFD-Wiki
CFD simulations is increasingly used in water and wastewater engineering for different purposes: optimization of existing processes, upgrade of a treatment line, design of new facilities, development of new treatment concepts, etc...
For example, in the case of an activated sludge line (wastewater treatment), CFD allows to test the validity of flow pattern designs/improvements of a unit process (geometry of the basins, possible baffles, location of connections with the other process units). It is indeed important to check for possible short-circuits of inlets and outlets to make sure, for example, that the sludge retention time is not disturbed.
