Direct numerical simulation (DNS)

DNS stands for Direct Numerical Simulation. A DNS simulation is a simulation where all physical scales of the flow are resolved and no turbulence model is used. DNS simulations normally require large computational resources and are only possible to do for fairly low Reynolds numbers.
