The Karlovitz number is used in turbulent combustion and corresponds to the ratio of chemical time scale and smallest turbulent time scale (Kolmogorov)
If the chemical reactions occur much faster than all turbulent scales. Turbulence do not alter the flame structure and the chemical region is in laminar conditions.
The Karlovitz number is linked to the Damkohler number ().
