Exploring Fluid Dynamics and Geophysics at the Intersection of Theory and 
Computation

The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) invites applications for 
postdoctoral positions focused on the interface between fluid dynamics and 
geophysics. This position is part of our ongoing efforts to explore the 
fundamental processes driving planetary and stellar phenomena, with particular 
emphasis on rotating convection and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows.

We explicitly encourage applications from candidates with a strong background in 
theoretical geophysics and/or astrophysics, who are eager to integrate their 
expertise into the study of fluid dynamics.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, employing 
advanced theoretical frameworks and high-performance computational tools to 
investigate key aspects of rotating convection and MHD flows. The research will 
address fundamental questions in geophysical and astrophysical fluid dynamics, 
with applications to planetary interiors, stellar convection zones, and other 
rotating systems.

Qualifications
--A PhD in physics, applied mathematics, geophysics, fluid dynamics, or a closely 
related field.
--Strong background in theoretical and computational fluid dynamics, with 
experience in rotating convection and/or MHD flows.
--Proficiency in high-performance computing and numerical methods for solving 
partial differential equations.
--Familiarity with geophysical and astrophysical applications of fluid dynamics.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and 
collaboratively.
--Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
