Description: | |
At the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering (www.mvt.ovgu.de) we are a group of enthusiastic researchers with intensive research activities in the numerical modelling of multiphase flows. As part of our research on particle-laden flows, we study the complex behaviour of dispersed particles in incompressible and compressible turbulent flows, particle-turbulence interactions, the influence of particle shape as well as applications featuring particle-laden flows. Currently, there are approximately 8 PhD students and 3 post-docs working at the Chair in the area. We are looking for a new Doctoral Candidate (PhD student) to join us to develop novel computational models to describe particle-laden flows, where the particles have complex shapes. This will include performing detailed numerical simulations with our in-house CFD code using direct numerical simulation (DNS) of flows with particles, as well as the development of a new model to describe the inter particle and particle-flow interactions. The new model will then be implemented in our in-house CFD code to simulate the transport of particles in flows at larger scales. The successful applicant is expected to write a PhD thesis based on this work, which will be supported accordingly from our side. Your primary responsibilities: * Design, execution and analysis of analytical and numerical studies of the behaviour of particles in fluid flows * Derivation, implementation and analysis of models to predict the behaviour of many particles in flows * Participation in the development of our in-house simulation tools in the C programming language Your profile: * MSc degree (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, process engineering, aeronautical engineering, applied mathematics, physics or a related discipline * Proven track record in working with physical models and numerical methods * Coding experience in C, C++, Fortran or Python in the context of numerical modelling is highly desirable * Experience in computational fluid dynamics, especially of direct numerical simulations or discrete element methods, is desirable * Fluent command of written and spoken English is required For further information about the position, please contact Prof. Berend van Wachem by email, berend.vanwachem(at)ovgu.de. Please send your complete application (motivation letter, curriculum vitae, graduation certificates, references) by September 21, 2024 using the online application portal: https://ovgu.b-ite.careers/r5m6f |
