Description: | |
Postdoctoral Position in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Environmental Fluid Dynamics at Westlake University Westlake University's Research Center for Zhejiang Province's Coastal Zone Environment and Resources is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Environmental Fluid Dynamics. About Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Coastal Zone Environment and Resources Research The Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Coastal Zone Environment and Resources Research, established by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology in 2021, aims to study the coupled mechanisms of land-sea-air multi- interfaces and cross-sphere interactions in coastal zones, providing insights into coastal zone issues and developing new methods, technologies, and equipment to address these challenges. The laboratory focuses on three main research areas: 1. Mechanisms and modeling of land-sea-air interactions in coastal zones. 2. New methods and technologies for coastal pollution control and ecological restoration. 3. Exploration and development of marine resources. The laboratory strives to become a world-leading center for coastal zone research, offering robust scientific support to address ecological and resource utilization issues in coastal zones locally, nationally, and globally. Project Background This project is based on the scientific questions surrounding the deep-sea bionic robot "Xigu No. 2" from the Intelligent, Informational, Integrative and Interdisciplinary Laboratory (i⁴-FSI Lab). We aim to explore and verify whether bionic undulating robots possess superior hydrodynamic performance and environmental friendliness through a series of experiments and numerical simulations. We invite you to join us in this endeavor. Affiliated Research Laboratories Sergio Torres Laboratory: our group focus on developing multi-scale and multi-physics numerical algorithms and software development, and applying them to numerical simulation analysis of complex processes in civil engineering, mining engineering, environmental engineering, and other fields. Through sophisticated numerical simulation tools, the aim is to reveal the multi-scale dynamic processes of fluid-particle and fluid-solute systems. The results from small-scale simulations are then used to develop upscaling methods to obtain constitutive relationships, which are subsequently applied to large-scale boundary value problems. More details can be found in our website: https://m3.westlake.edu.cn/ Dixia Fan Laboratory: The primary research topics include digital fluid mechanics for marine engineering equipment, design and control of amphibious marine robots, and applications of metamaterials in large-scale underwater deformable structures. The laboratory employs experimental fluid dynamics driven by physical information and data integration to explore the strong nonlinearity and multiscale nature of fluid mechanics, applying these insights to real-world engineering problems such as port and coastal infrastructure, offshore transportation, and deep-sea exploration. The ultimate goal is to enhance China's marine science research capabilities, improve resource and environmental exploration, promote energy conservation and emission reduction in offshore operations, and advance the development of deep-sea equipment technologies and industries. More detailed information can be found on the laboratory's webpage: https://i4fsi.lab.westlake.edu.cn/ Job Opening: Postdoctoral Researcher Position: One postdoctoral researcher for the Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Coastal Zone Environment and Resources Research. Responsibilities: 1. Hydrodynamic Performance of Oscillating Fins: o Experimental: Conduct hydrodynamic performance studies in a water tank using a three-dimensional PIV system to investigate biomechanical and dynamic characteristics and the intrinsic mechanisms of biological propulsion. o Numerical Simulation: Use custom programming, OpenFOAM, Fluent, StarCCM+, or similar software to study the hydrodynamic performance and propulsion mechanisms of biological systems and predict the hydrodynamic performance of biomimetic underwater robots. • Actively apply for external research funding, publish academic papers, regularly report project progress to joint laboratory leaders and the laboratory director, and engage in academic exchanges with the research team. Additionally, support other team members in their research collaborations and publications. Qualifications: 1. Under 35 years old, holding or about to obtain a Ph.D. degree. 2. Demonstrated academic innovation ability with at least one publication in a leading journal in the fields of mechanics, mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or related interdisciplinary areas. 3. Experience in biomimetic fluid mechanics and fluid-structure interaction experiments and numerical simulations is preferred. 4. Strong project leadership, communication, and task execution skills, with a willingness to organize or participate in field testing. Benefits and Opportunities Successful candidates will receive unique opportunities including: 1. Collaboration with experts in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, and artificial intelligence. 2. A stable, open, and pleasant campus and working environment supported by a world-class research platform. 3. Opportunities to participate in international and domestic academic conferences, either online or offline. 4. Competitive salary (negotiable) and performance-based research rewards. 5. Government support and subsidies for postdoctoral researchers working in Hangzhou, as well as for those staying in Hangzhou after completing their postdoctoral work. Salary and Benefits Competitive salary and working conditions will be offered based on Westlake University's regulations and the applicant's capabilities, including social insurance and other benefits provided by Westlake University. Application Process 1. Application Deadline: The position is open until filled. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply promptly. 2. Application Materials: Please send your resume and supporting documents as a single PDF file to s.torres@westlake.edu.cn or fandixia@westlake.edu.cn. The email subject and attached resume should be named as "Postdoctoral Application for Key Laboratory - [Your Name]". 3. Recruitment Process: After an initial review, we will notify qualified candidates of an interview via phone or email. If you do not receive an interview notification within two months, you may consider your application unsuccessful.
